Cycles of Change

Project Description

Cycles of Change

(…)
Und so lang du das nicht hast,
Dieses: Stirb und Werde!
Bist du nur ein trüber Gast
Auf der dunklen Erde.

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, „Selige Sehnsucht“ 1814, West-östlicher Divan

When plants and flowers fade most of us see only decay. But there is always the beginning of new life to perceive: the seeds.

So with these paintings I would like to draw the attention to the new circle of life. In this way I understand the term „incomplete“ in the Japanese concept wabi sabi: nature is a kind of never ending story …

The processes of growth and change, becoming and passing are of great importance in our lives as well as in the plant world. It is important to always see both sides at the same time:

(…)
And as long as you don’t have this,
this: Die and become!
You are just a dreary guest
on the dark earth.

– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, „Blessed Longing“ 1814, West-Eastern Divan
