Artistic Process

Change – Transition – Growth

I like the Japanese aesthetic very much: the white space, the surprising perspectives, the close-ups of little overlooked things. The haiku moment that passes so quickly and unnoticed, the wabi sabi of things that are imperfect, impermanent and incomplete.

I am particularly interested in connections, in resonances, in the things behind the curtain, in the yugen of all growing things, in the invisible that emerges before the inner eye.

Although my work is often abstract, it is closely related to natural phenomena. The lines follow the growth of twigs and plant stems. Colours reflect the seasonal atmosphere, the light of the time of day. Methaphors reflect my observations in Nature.

The variety of lines, shapes and forms in nature never cease to fascinate me and inspire me to create new compositions:

What do I need to create an impression of a tree? How many words do I need to evoke an image in the reader’s imagination? What can I leave out, what is essential to its form, where can the mind imagine further growth?

As a nature artist, change for me is growth, transition, new beginnings. Nature, all life forms, we too are part of cycles of change, of passing and becoming, of ebb and flow.

On the contrary, this ongoing human-induced climate change is destructive because it is happening too fast for all life forms, including ourselves, to adapt in time.

It is my motivation to use my art and writing to visualise the beauty we are losing, the importance of natural processes and how every living thing is connected to us.

I hope my work inspires environmental responsibility, awareness and a change of perspective.
